The 24 hour readathon, or the tale of how I finally lost my eyesight

I am doing Dewey's 24 hour read-a-thon or (hyuck hyuck) read-a-ton (I hate myself). I am mostly going to wing it while I go since I forgot to make a stack and most of my books are back in my hostel while I laze about at home. I will be beginning with The Amazing Adventures of Kavalier and Clay and, it having the mass and width of a smallish building, might also be ending the read-a-thon with it. Await updates!

Update!
Hour 20.
So, a read-a-thon mostly full of fitful naps is hardly a read-a-thon. Warm weather, insatiable snacking, and the general friendliness of books lulls me to sleep almost all the time. However, almost 400 pages have been completed so not a total loss of the day.

The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy: A Trilogy in Four Parts by Douglas Adams- Thoughts and Ramblings

7.  The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy: A Trilogy in Four Parts- Douglas Adams

Perhaps it was a lucky chance that my second-hand bookseller (Marry Me!) did not have the five part omnibus. 'So Long, and Thanks for All the Fish' ends, not perhaps at perfection, but in a good place. A place where I am happy to leave the characters. Douglas Adams was not happy with Mostly Harmless and what precursory reading tells me, neither will I. And let us face it, Eoin Colfer, even with my immense liking for the first Artemis book, I would rather re-read the series a third time than read someone else's interpretation of it.

Which also brings up the point that books read as a teenager almost never have a properly lasting effect on flighty heads. I am glad I made the effort to rediscover 'Hitchhiker's'. I appreciate it far more than I did then and the humour resonates much better. Perhaps a re-read six years down the line might give another entirely different perspective.

The Return of the Prodigal Blogger

After looking sadly at my reading habits for the past two years, followed by a slow realization at Goodreads that I had not really read a good book for a rather long time, came a not surprising resolution. This year, I conquer my procrastination and my urge to watch Community reruns. This year, I read. To make things even more challenging, I vow to finish 200 books this year.

Thus is born the new blog, completely devoted to my new challenge, to chart the books I read, any opinions I might form and, possibly, comments on Community reruns.

Here is to 2012! And rebirths! And Community Season 4!
